Victor Hugo once said of music that it “expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”. Friedrich Nietzsche went a step farther, suggesting “without music, life would be a mistake”.

I grew up in a music-loving family and was thoroughly educated in the music of the 1960s and 1970s, and later came to find a sense of belonging within the Britpop era of the 1990s.
