The fire at Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor on Oct 25 raises questions about fire safety in hospitals.

A review of fire safety in four public hospitals by researchers from Universiti Sains Malaysia concluded that the problems encountered in fire safety management were documentation, combustible material, lack of installation of fire measures or outdated fire safety technology, locked doors due to security reasons, lack of training of hospital staff, and blocking of fire safety systems (Source: Woon Chin Ong & Mohd Zailan Suleiman. Problems in implementation of fire safety management in Malaysia government hospitals. Adv Environ Biol 9(4) 47-50, 2015).
