An encouraging nudge can change lives

This year marks the 10th year I’m writing this column. More than once, as I’ve struggled to write authentic stuff from the heart, I’ve asked myself whether I should continue. I contemplated giving up Navel Gazer for the first time some weeks back. But like a stubborn addiction, this column is so hard to kick, and here’s why.

One of my long-time readers is a teacher named Naveen. I knew he became a teacher when we became friends on Facebook, several months after our first email exchange triggered by my article on Rajnikanth in December 2007. Our interactions, if any, were largely limited to the occasional Like on each other’s posts, until one day, I got this letter from him.
