Many cooking pans are coated with a non-stick layer to prevent burnt-in food, like this pan coated with a proprietary ceramic film that is PTFE-free. — Filepics
As a chemical name, C8 sounds like the big brother to the popular military explosive compound, C4. In reality, C8 has no combustion properties and in fact, is actually used to manufacture kitchen wares which are more or less impervious to heat.
C8 is perhaps better known as PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid or perfluorooctanoate) and one of its major uses is in the manufacture of consumer goods such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene).
