King of the fruits: Although the Durian is known for its strong stench, its very much part of our Malaysian culture.

Whenever I am introduced to new friends and they learn I come from Balik Pulau, they will ask excitedly, “Do you own a durian orchard?”

You see, Balik Pulau – the biggest district in the south-west of Penang – is famous for its durians. Most durian lovers will acknowledge this as a fact. And this targets the village as a popular tourist destination during the durian season from late June to August.
