Why do men exist? To save us from extinction, say scientists, through sex

Why do men exist when humans really only need their sperm for the survival of the species? As it turns out, we need them for sex.

Why do men exist? Seriously? Since sperm is the male’s only contribution to reproduction in numerous species, biologists have long puzzled about why evolutionary selection, known for its ruthless efficiency, allows them to exist at all.

Surely, a system where all offspring are produced without sex – as in all-female asexual populations – would be far more efficient at producing greater numbers of offspring. So why are there still males? Do we really need them? As it turns out, we do.
