Forgot to turn off the lights in your bedroom when you left for work? Want to turn on the air-conditioning in the living room before you reach home?
All this and more is possible with the latest technology and solutions from Schneider Electric, a global player in energy management and automation. The company showcased a range of stylish Smart Home solutions at the 2015 Malaysia Summit held in Kuala Lumpur recently in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of operations in the country.
Themed “The Next Age of Change”, the summit introduced the latest energy management and home automation solutions to help reduce energy cost and improve energy efficiency.
“Today, we are able to control the lights, entertainment systems, curtains, temperature, and security in homes, residential buildings, and hotels. By combining technology, aesthetics, safety, and design, home and building owners now can enjoy unparalled comfort, convenience, and energy efficiency,” said Soo Pow Leong, country president of Schneider Electric Malaysia.
Among the solutions presented was the ULTI Smart Home Control solution. This technology enables the lighting, curtains, and home devices such as TVs and air-conditioners to be controlled from a single point of interface, such as a tablet, smartphone, desktop, or laptop.
With its own processor and memory, the Ulti works via wireless technology, which cuts out extensive rewiring and home renovations, thereby reducing costs. In some cases, Schneider representatives said that the system can be installed in under five minutes.
This third generation solution comes with a simple-to-use mobile application that is compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems to allow full control through mobile devices. You can turn on or turn off the lights upstairs without going up or control the dimmer of a standing lamp. The schedule link function allows you to switch your lights or air-conditioner on or off at specific times.
In the event of a power failure, an optional battery back-up pack can help keep the timing on track, depending on how long the power outage lasts. Once power is restored, the processor will recall the last programme settings.
Also on display was the sleek Xightor Pro Video Door Entry System, which features a touchscreen control panel that can blend with the interior of your house.
This security system includes an indoor video door phone to enable home-owners to monitor visitors and communicate with them before opening the door. The solution automatically takes a photo of any unanswered caller for future reference and easy access. Each touchscreen can save up to 32 photos that you can also retrieve through the Xightor Pro mobile app.
For apartments, there is also an option to call the security guard or monitor the lobby area or your apartment’s side door entrance.
If you don’t want to wait for the lift, pick the “call lift” function. The system can also be linked to your tablet to view and speak to visitors at your home when you are out.
The control panel comes in white, matte bronze, matte silver, and customisable frame designs. The solution can also control your house alarm system and is fully integrated with the Ulti Smart Home Control.
An extra IP (Internet Protocol) camera can be added anywhere you want to strengthen security, for example in the garden or on a balcony. By connecting the solution to an occupancy sensor or intruder alarm, the system is able to immediately send an alarm log to your lobby guard, while sending you an alert message via the Xightor Pro mobile app. If you forget to turn on your alarm before going out, you can enable it through your mobile app at any time and from anywhere.
