Dawn of a revolution

Rock ’n’ roll was born in the United States, but it was four English chaps who took it out to the world.

IT was 50 years ago today that The Beatles went from an energetic British pop sensation to a full-blown, worldwide phenomenon. On Feb 9, 1964, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr made their debut appearance on American television, playing to more than 73 million viewers, smashing viewership records in the process. The Beatles’ performance has since become a landmark of pop culture.
