MDM X requested her general practitioner to refer her to a private hospital when she had acute abdominal pain.
A diagnosis of ruptured ectopic pregnancy was made. As the condition was life threatening, she was operated on immediately.
Her recovery was uneventful. The hospital management received a letter of guarantee for payment from the organisation which her employer had taken a policy with.
Following several correspondences, the hospital was informed, about nine months later, that it would not receive reimbursement for Mdm X’s bill, as pregnancy was excluded in the policy.
Mdm X was then contacted by the hospital and is paying her bill with monthly instalments.
Mdm X is naturally upset. Had she been informed of the exclusions in the policy, she would have had requested her general practitioner to refer her to a public sector hospital instead.
