We need new guidelines for healthcare to keep patients safe

Hospital-based healthcare guidelines in line with evidence-based medicine is necessary for improved patient safety.

Hopkins, a 75-year-old elderly gentleman, was admitted to hospital for a chest infection. The junior doctor in charge gave Hopkins his undivided attention, ensured timely administration of medications and chest physiotherapy.

However, due to his failing knees, Hopkins spent most of the time in bed. At day five, he developed a leg swelling, but brushed it off.
