Dense breasts are common in younger women, and this makes it harder to detect breast cancer on mammograms.

Breasts are made up of a mixture of fibrous, glandular and fatty tissue. It does not matter what size or shape your breasts are. Your breasts are considered “dense” if you have a lot of fibrous or glandular tissue and not much fat.
