20% calorie cut by 2025, pledge soft drink makers


The largest US soft drink makers pledge to cut sugary drink calories by 20% in 10 years through education, marketing and packaging.

To prevent a host of diseases linked to over-consumption of sugar, the American Beverage Association, whose members include Coca-Cola Co, PepsiCo Inc, and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Inc, and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, announced the plan at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York. The alliance was founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation.

To reach their goal, soft drink makers plan to educate communities on how to reduce calories and offering more low calorie drinks. – Filepic
