So as you would guess. There’s an app for that... several in fact. Take a Break! Guided Meditations for Stress Relief by Meditation Oasis is a free app that affords you a seven- or 13-minute work day break. The guided meditation is a bonus for those of us who find silence so intimidating.

You have the option of listening with or without music or nature sounds. You can also listen to the music and nature sounds alone. The time frames are just long enough to refresh you without getting to the “I’m going to crawl out of my skin if this doesn’t end soon,” stage of beginning meditation.

Presence and Rest and Relax Guided Meditations were also developed by the duo behind Meditation Oasis and cost 99 cents (RM3.30).

Those apps guide you on a variety of mental quieting journeys of five to 20 minutes.

All the apps have instructions you can read, though it’s pretty no-nonsense: Be quiet, listen, relax and don’t beat yourself up for not reaching a monk’s level of concentration in a day.

All apps available for Apple and Android and select versions for Windows and BlackBerry. — McClatchy-Tribune Information Services
