YogaTrail helps locate a local class around the world.
FOR fans of yoga looking to unroll their mats while on the road, a new website directory can help you find a local studio or class, no matter where you are.
Launched by a Chiang Mai, Thailand-based husband and wife team, YogaTrail is an international directory featuring, so far, 1,500 studios and 4,000 teachers around the globe, as well as retreats, events, and teacher trainings.
To search, enter location to receive a list that you can then sort by distance, name, or Yelp-style rating system, although this feature isn’t quite developed yet. Plus for each studio, you can access address, yoga styles offered, class prices, and social media links.
Cofounder Alex Klein said that YogaTrail, which was launched on July 25, has grown to 20,000 live profiles in the past two months, making it the largest yoga directory available, he said. “We’ve also just reached 100,000 Facebook likes, which was pretty big for us,” he said. Some other companies doing similar things include GoRecess, Classtivity, and Fitmapped.
YogaTrail’s listings and reviews are building in other areas, especially Europe and Australia, as well as Africa and Asia, which is now just joining the “yoga boom”, he added. “So really, while most yoga listings are in the US, Europe, and Australia, we seem to be growing everywhere, even in some pretty unexpected and remote parts of the world,” Klein said. “We really want everyone, large or small, to feel welcome on YogaTrail.”
This April, yoga apparel company Lululemon launched a free app, Om Finder, that lets users find classes by location, get tips from local yogis, map the studio’s location, and invite friends to join in. Listings in the app are generated by Mindbody, a popular yoga studio booking software. Studios that don’t use the software can submit their studio for inclusion. – AFP Relaxnews
