A hearty Father's Day

IT was a family bonding session at Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur (GKL) last weekend with guests and staff being treated to a free talk, food and fun.

As a family hospital, GKL wanted to get closer to staff members and patrons by hosting a special Father’s Day event at Glencafe. “In conjunction with Father’s Day weekend, we wanted to take the opportunity to connect with our patrons to continue our ongoing efforts in raising awareness about health topics such as heart health, and of course to allow families to interact with our staff and enjoy a few games and have some fun,” said public relations & communications manager, Adeline Abdul Ghani.

Guests were treated to a free talk entitled “Taking Care of Your Heart” by consultant cardiologist Dr Dewi Ramasamy. The cardiologist generously shared an A to Z guide on heart health, including risk factors, common misconceptions and preventative measures for heart attacks, and even shared statistics of heart disease in Malaysia.

“Early detection and prevention of coronary heart disease are of the utmost importance instead of relying on efforts to treat advanced disease and acute heart attacks,” advised Dr Ramasamy.

As one of the stops in its roadshow, Dutch Lady was also at GKL that day with its new representative chef Sherson Lian. Besides serving samples of milk drinks to the attendees, everyone was in for a treat as chef Sherson conducted a live cooking demonstration.

On the menu was a fried chicken dish, pasta in cheese sauce and a fruit smoothie. Lucky attendee nine-year old Abdullah even got a chance to go up on stage and help chef Sherson prepare the smoothie!

All attendees were then treated to a sampling of chef Sherson’s tasty servings, and fans of the foodie crowded around to take a few photos with him.

Other activities for the day included colouring tables for the younger attendees, a cake decorating competition which was judged by chef Sherson and Glencafe’s own chef Rezuan, as well a special Father’s Day red-velvet cake cutting session.

Abdullah, who was the star of the day, was at the event to collect his prize for the “Father of the Year” essay contest which was held on GKL’s Facebook page, and enthusiastically shared why his father deserved to be father of the year.

“He’s nice, kind and funny,” said Abdullah. Mother Mehwish was beaming with pride seeing Abdullah’s participation.

“We visit Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur for our regular checkups, and we saw the ‘Father of the Year’ contest flyer just the day before the deadline. We are really proud of Abdullah’s efforts in writing his essay and sent it in as a last-minute submission, so we were pleased when we learned he had won a prize!”

Father Jawad, who chimed in to say that the contest had “brought out the best in Abdullah”, was happy with the pleasant morning at the hospital with his family. “Seeing Abdullah participate in all the activities was great, and we hope we can support future activities and events like these at Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur,” said Jawad.
