Contrast media are used to give additional information that a plain X-ray can’t provide.

THE benefits of X-rays have been discussed in a previous article. Apart from the plain images, X-rays are often used with substances called “contrast media” to examine in detail certain organs and blood vessels. Contrast media have an important role in diagnostic imaging as the effectiveness of X-rays would be limited without it.
