EATING plenty of fibre-rich foods that include fruits and vegetables, dried beans and lentils and wholegrain, breads and cereals helps with the growth of helpful bacteria in the digestive system, said a dietician.  

In most people, the correct balance of friendly bacteria is maintained in the digestive system by eating a variety of healthy foods, said Tan Yoke Hwa, president of the Malaysian Dieticians’ Association.
