STATISTICS abound stating that therewill be more old people in the nearfuture, not only in Malaysia, but inmost countries in the world. We are allliving longer lives, and with the youngergeneration having smaller families, theproportion of senior citizens is growingsteadily.

More “children” of the current generation of seniors have found jobs, careers and spouses far away from their hometown than in previous generations. There are many more distractions in the form of entertainment and travel, too. Many seniors have found that they are alone in their twilight years for many reasons. So long as they are independent in their basic activities of daily living, able to visit nearby shops, maintain some social contact with friends and neighbours, life is not too bad.
