Spread love, not herpes

AN international study has shown that there is an anti-viral drug that significantly reduces the risk of transmitting genital herpes from an infected person to another. This is the first such treatment in the world clinically proven to reduce the risk of genital herpes transmission and has been recently approved by the Drug Control Authority of Malaysia.

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus, HSV-1 and HSV-2, of which the latter is more common. The infection causes recurrent outbreaks of painful genital sores, which take one to two weeks to heal. Worse still, the virus cannot be completely eradicated and remains in the infected person’s body for life. It is easily transmitted from an infected person to their partner, even if the infected person does not show any outward symptoms.
