URINARY stones or calculi are hardened mineral deposits in the urinary tract. They originate as microscopic particles and develop into stones over time.
The urinary tract consists of the kidneys, ureters (tubes that carry urine to bladder), bladder and urethra and these stones may form anywhere along the urinary tract. Small, smooth stones may remain in the kidney or pass without causing pain. These are called “silent” stones.
