AN ancient Ayurvedic herb is making waves in the United States. It won the Best New Product in the Health and Medical category at Nutracon Exhibition in 2001 in San Diego, California, and the Japanese FDA recently cleared this herb for use in weight loss in the very tightly regulated Japanese market.

Interestingly, the herb was never used for weight loss before. Coleus forskohlii is a plant that is part of the mint family. It is native to the subtropical regions of India. It is a spice and medicinal herb with a long history of usage in Ayurveda. Traditional medicine has used Coleus forskohlii to help with cardiovascular disease, abdominal colic, respiratory disorders and even painful urination.
