WOMEN of childbearing age in the United States are in danger of having high blood mercury levels. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in March this year also expressed concern for young children. The risks with regards to heart attacks have been quite well established in medical literature and affect us all. The situation is probably not too different here in Malaysia as all the oceans are intimately connected.
While the concern is women who are of childbearing age, we should all be concerned. Mercury is extremely toxic. It takes just a few milligrams of mercury to kill you. It can cause heart attacks. Worse still, it accumulates over time.
