Eyeing infections

I HAVE been wearing contact lenses for 10 years. Recently, a friend told me she contracted an eye infection from wearing her contact lenses. I am frightened. Is this common? 

Eye infections, in particular a corneal ulcer, can be a complication of wearing contact lenses, especially if one is not hygienic. The cornea is the part of the eye that covers your pupil, and it is the point of contact with your lenses.
