I HAVE noticed blood on the toilet paper every time I move my bowels recently. It doesn’t really hurt. My friend said I probably have “piles”. What are “piles”?  

Piles is a common term used to refer to haemorrhoids. This is turn is a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and in-flamed.
