The initial results of the EUROPA trial strongly show that, in addition to current standard therapy for coronary artery disease, another drug should be added to the regimen

According to consultant cardiologist Dato Seri Dr Robaayah Zambahari, who is Director, Institute Jantung Negara, data from the Information and Documentation System Unit of the Health Ministry of Malaysia shows that cardiovascular disease is the major cause of admission to government hospitals. Cardiovascular disease is also the principal cause of deaths in the government hospitals, accounting for 23-26% of deaths in government hospitals from 1994 to 2001. The majority of the cardiovascular disease responsible for hospital admissions and deaths is CAD. In the year 2000, CAD accounted for 33.2% of cardiovascular disease admissions and 31.2% of cardiovascular disease deaths.
