Monday is World Osteoporosis Day. It’s an appropriate time to look at osteoporosis, its prevalence, impact and various prevention and treatment measures.

THE theme for this year’s World Osteoporosis Day is “Quality of Life”. This theme emphasises both the serious impact of osteoporotic fractures and the importance of preventing fractures in order to maintain an independent and active lifestyle. This is especially true for vertebral and hip fractures as these can cause long-term disability and are also associated with a high rate of mortality among the elderly
