OCTOBER 20 is World Osteoporosis Day. Indeed, the World Health Organisation has designated this as the “year of the bone”. So, it is perhaps time for us to spend as few moments appreciating the parts of us we never want to see. In fact, taking care of our bones, will keep osteoporosis, which literally means “porous bones” – the bane of old age – at bay.
Your bones are so strong that just one piece can support a huge weight. Indeed, the bone is the second hardest substance in your body. The enamel – the outer surface of your teeth is harder. (Amazingly, the enamel is the second hardest substance in nature. Only diamonds are harder!)
