Boys will be boys

WHAT makes a man tick? Many women have been known to ask this question, but let’s steer clear of that one and stick to the biology of it. Blame it on the sex chromosomes, X-chromosome and Y-chromosome. Put two X chromosomes together and a girl develops; put an X and a Y-chromosome together and a boy develops.

At around eight weeks after the sperm has met up with the egg in the fallopian tube, the Y chromosome kicks into action and triggers the testes to develop. This embryonic tissue would have become ovaries without a Y chromosome.
