NEW drugs that reduce cholesterol levels in the body also appear to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. But researchers are also reporting new data showing that what is good for the heart might be good for a person’s emotional and psychological health.
In one US study of elderly patients with pre-existing heart disease, the patients who had been taking the new anti-cholesterol drugs known as statins experienced less depression, less anxiety and less hostility than similar patients who either were not taking the drugs or who didn’t take them consistently.
