NEWSPAPERS around the world reported in April that the US sugar industry was trying to stop the release of a World Health Organisation (WHO) report on healthy diets. In its report on Diet, Nutrition and Prevention of Chronic Diseases, the WHO suggested that people could reduce the incidence of obesity, diabetes and some heart disease by (among other things) by reducing their intake of sugar and other high-fat sweeteners to no more than 10% of their daily caloric intake.
