WE'VE got smallpox, and now monkey pox. Are there any other poxes lurking around?
First, let's look at the poxviruses. Poxviruses are very large, brick-shaped viruses about 300 x 200 nm (the size of small bacteria). The most prominent of this genus of virus is the smallpox virus (variola), which causes a severe disease in man but which has now been eliminated by intensive international vaccination.
