Fighting cancer where it lives

THERE’S a revolution brewing in the diagnosis of cancer that could dramatically change how doctors figure out which tumours are truly life-threatening – and need chemotherapy – and which are not.  

In the Netherlands, the new diagnostic tool – called by various names, including gene expression profiling – is expected to be available for women with breast cancer this summer. In the United States, it could be several years before the technique is routinely available.
