UNHEALTHY diets and “faddy’’ weight-loss regimes may be condemning a generation of babies to heart disease, strokes and diabetes, says an expert in foetal medicine. 

Four out of 10 women have such poor diets when they become pregnant that they are jeopardising the health of their children, a study of 12,000 women found. Many unborn babies are being deprived of the essential nutrients found in fruit, vegetables and dairy products.
