Going the distance

A HEART bypass was the last thing on Peter Lau’s mind. He didn’t smoke or drink and exercised religiously, setting out as early as 5am for his daily runs around his neighbourhood in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Growing up in the old tin-mining town of Taiping in Perak, he recalls a youth devoted to a variety of outdoor activities including badminton, football and volleyball.

“When I was a college student in New Zealand, I played rugby with the Kiwis, dangled from cliffs on mountain climbing trips and even fell off a bridge when I went for bungee jumping. I got a real kick from the outdoors,” he enthuses.
