No one diet for everyone

YOUR recent two-page spread on the Atkins’ diet (Atkins' diet continues to feed controversy; The other story, Fit For Life, Jan 12) was a real interesting and balanced read. I, however, would like to offer my own opinions about all these diets and give other readers another point of view.

I am a layperson with no professional qualifications on the subject of nutrition. I don’t eat poultry or red meat but can’t quite call myself a vegetarian as I do eat eggs sparingly and a fair amount of fatty fish (e.g. salmon, mackerel). I haven’t read Dr Atkins’ book; I have never been “on a diet” (to lose weight) in my life; and I’ve been a marathoner for the past five years.
