Dengue watch

Selangor is facing its worst dengue situation in 10 years and has recorded the highest number of dengue cases and dengue-related deaths among all states in the country last year. It’s time to take stock – dengue is not a new disease; it’s been around for years, and it’s getting worse.

THE little suckers are pests, especially when they go hunting for food. They home in on their targets, and insert tiny needles whereby they make a “withdrawal” of blood. It’s not enough to cause anaemia, not at all, but there’s a risk of the bloodsucker introducing a virus into your blood stream that leads to dengue fever.
