Send best wishes in love letters

Julie's Love Letters have been around since 1982.

One of the surest signs of Chinese New Year preparations in my old neighbourhood in Sungai Way was the sight of women huddling around charcoal stoves in their backyards, and the sweet scent of Chinese love letters (kuih kapit) permeating the air.

Years of practice taught the neighbourhood kids exactly where to stand in this social situation – not too close lest the ladies get annoyed, but not too far either that you cannot reach for the “defective” biscuits when they were handed out.
