Ice Age people lived in extreme heights, earlier than previously thought

Archaeological evidence shows that early people lived in these high altitudes all year-long. This suggests that these people adapted to the extreme temperatures and thrived. - AFP

The people of the Ice Age were able to survive at high elevations in the Peruvian Andes 12,400 years ago, almost a millennium earlier than originally thought, researchers say.

At an elevation of 4,500 meters above sea level, hunter-gatherers made their homes despite low oxygen, frigid weather and high solar radiation.
