Humans have to thank this ancient fish for the gift of sex – it's the earliest vertebrate animal found to have done the old "in-out, in-out".
Scientists studying fossils have discovered that the intimate act of sexual intercourse used by many vertebrate species, including us humans, was pioneered by a group of ancient armoured fishes, called placoderms, about 385 million years ago in Scotland.
