Landscape transformed by oil palm project

THE Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) began its first oil palm plantation project at Lubok Antu in 1976. Its development centres are currently located in four Divisions – Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong – with 18 estates covering 54,000ha.

Salcra’s policy is to bring development directly to the local communities instead of relocating and resettling villagers. The development period is 25 years, and only takes place with consent from landowners while land titles are given in perpetuity.
