Brickfields Now & Then Today & tomorrow: Remember the good old days? Join Thor Kah Hoong as he relives the golden age of the 50s and 60s with Brickfields Now & Then Part 1 & Part 2.

This is the third staging of Thor’s collection of childhood memories with new stories, comical characters and experiences after Telling Tales in 1998.

This one-man show will take you back to the time where corporal punishment was the norm, fireworks were still legal, 40 sen went a really long way, etc, all through the eyes of a young boy growing up in Brickfields.

The Gamelan Project April 20: The musicians of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), led by cellist Julie Dessureault, will collaborate with renowned local group Rhythm In Bronze in an informal showcase.

Themed The Gamelan Project, the ensemble will take you on a journey of discovery of gamelan music from around the world.

Together, they will present an engaging repertoire such as Ketawang Kasatriyan (Javanese), Dina Jendela (Sudanese), Sekar Anyar (Balinese), Togok (Malay) and some contemporary mix such as 10 Sen and Race. Time: 6.30pm. Ticket price: RM10.

Yoga for Japan April 17: This outdoor yoga charity event will begin with yoga classes conducted by Manasa Yoga guru and founder, Manoj Kaimal and wife, Sandhya. This will be followed by a talk and yoga performance.

Songwriters’ Round 26 Today: Founded and produced by Pete Teo, the Songwriters’ Round has long been the premium showcase event for singer-songwriters in Malaysia.

Just as the talent scouts who frequent the show are often some of the most illustrious members of the music industry, performers who have played “the round” make up the Who’s who list of the home-grown singer-songwriter community.

Catch Pete Teo, Melina William, Yohei Miyake and Reza Salleh in individual sets.

These performers promise to prove the quality of homegrown talent.

Malaysian Art: Appreciation and Critique Today: Public Art Programmes 2011 is a three-part seminar series jointly organised by Galeri Petronas and Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers as an educational initiative to create awareness and educate the public on art knowledge, with a focus on Malaysian art.
