Fibroid grows alongside baby

“There is a huge fibroid in your uterus.”

This was the first thing I heard from my gynaecologist during my first checkup in the hospital.

My heart sank when she said I couldn't do anything right now since I was pregnant. Both my husband and I felt relieved after the gynae said it wouldn't harm our baby but that it would grow along with my baby.

I was having some bloody discharge for the first three months of pregnancy. My gynae told me it was due to the fibroid and I was given some progesterone. My gynae advised me to get more rest to avoid a miscarriage. I was very careful during my pregnancy. I just wanted my baby to be safe and healthy.

When it was nearing my fourth month, my stomach felt uncomfortable one day. It got worse towards the night and I couldn't sleep at all. I cried the whole night thinking that I was going to lose my baby. I went to the gynae the next day. I was given some painkillers and progesterone. Luckily the pain then went away.

Finally, the day to deliver my baby came. I opted for natural childbirth and we had a girl. I was so happy to see our little angel come into this world!

Unfortunately, our girl was diagnosed with torticollis when she was almost one month. Torticollis is an unnatural condition in which the head leans to one side because the neck muscles on that side are contracted. She also developed a flat head from sleeping with her head slightly tilted to one side.

We took her to a physical therapist at the rehabilitation centre to give her some stretching exercises (which we felt were pretty traumatising to her) and to build up her neck muscles. We went once a week for about three months. The visits then tapered off to about once a month. By the time she was 10 months, she was better, although we still look at her regularly to make sure there's no relapse.

Our little angel is going to be one year old next month. We hope she will always be happy and healthy! Daddy and mommy love her so much!
