Training Track is organising a hands-on workshop for parents and teachers of kids with autism and cognitive challenges, and a language and literacy workshop for preschool teachers.
Autism workshop
The first workshop called Encouraging Pragmatic/ Social Language Skills In Children will be held in Ipoh and Petaling Jaya.
Participants will be briefed on the skills that constitute good social language skills; learn new strategies to teach their children socially-accepted behaviour; and learn how to help their kids deal with social encounters.
It will be conducted by Chia Kien Eng, a pioneer in the field of speech and language therapy services in Malaysia.
The workshop will be held on July 13, 2013, at La Salle Centre (behind St Michael's Institution), Jalan S.P Seenivasagam, Ipoh, from 9am-1pm.
In Petaling Jaya, it will be held on July 20, 2013, at La Salle University Hall, Jalan 5/15B, Off Jalan Chantek (off Jalan Gasing) from 9am-1pm.
The early bird fee (for registrations by June 15) is RM150 per person. After that, the fee is RM200 per person. The fee includes a certificate, materials and refreshments.
Language for preschoolers
The Language & Literacy: A Workshop For Preschool Teachers will also be conducted by Chia.
Teachers will learn strategies and activities to cultivate:
- better listening skills;
- better oral and narrative language skills;
- better phonological awareness; and
- reading and writing in a fun and purposeful way.
The workshop will reveal the differences between children who enjoy reading and those who read for the sake of having to read, as well as children who can write creatively and those who can write “technically” (memorise and can copy text).
This workshop will be held on July 13, 2013, at La Salle Centre (behind St Michael's Institution), Jalan S.P Seenivasagam, Ipoh, from 2-6pm.
It will also be held on July 20, 2013, at La Salle University Hall, Jalan 5/15B, Off Jalan Chantek (off Jalan Gasing), Petaling Jaya, from 2-6pm.
