How safe are your child's toys?

There are so many toys in the market today. You could buy new ones from toy stores, the night markets (pasar malam) and even online shops. While the options have increased from 30 years ago, so have the risks. Today, parents have to be wary of choking hazards, flammable material, lead content, BPA (Bisphenol A), lead and phthalate.

Ong Sui Chin is well aware of these dangers. She is the business manager of SafeToys Enterprise and it is her job to know what is safe and what is not.

Ong stresses the need for parents to be aware of the dangers in certain toys.

The toys in our local toy stores often don't have labels and it's up to parents to check. If you are buying a toy for your child you should ask who are you buying from and what is in the toy?

Unfortunately, no one is going to go through the process of calling up the manufacturer to find out what is in the toy.
