Maria Chong Abdullah has always loved art. But she didn't realise that she had the talent for it until she enrolled in acrylic art classes offered by the University of the Third Age Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (U3A) – a programme under the Lifelong Learning for Older Malaysians project by Universiti Putra Malaysia's Institute of Gerontology.
Since she signed up for her first class in 2019, Maria has made about 146 artworks in various mediums, from acrylic to watercolour, charcoal, and more.
