Can you play the electric guitar? These girls are probably better than you

If you're learning how to play the guitar and need some inspiration, take a look at these two child prodigies who can give some professional guitar players a run for their money.

Miss Big

Li-sa-X is a 12-year-old girl from Kanagawa, Japan, who was born into a musical family – her father is a professional musician and her mother plays the piano.

Li-sa-X first learned how to play the guitar from her father at age five. At seven, she and her parents started sharing videos of her performing cover songs on her guitar on YouTube.

Through these videos, the young girl started gaining popularity for her extraordinary talent, worldwide. She covered technically-challenging songs from Paul Gilbert (of Mr Big), Guthrie Govan and Dream Theater.

One of her videos, Scarified by American heavy metal band Racer X, was viewed more than five million times; Li-sa-X was only eight years old when she played it! Paul Gilbert, the song's composer, also saw the video and later invited her to join his online school Artist Works as a student.

Earlier this year, Li-sa-X was featured in the Australian version of the popular US young talent show, Little Big Shots. She told the show's host, Shane Jacobson, that she likes bands that play both "violent songs" and sweet songs. Li-sa-X added that when she grows up, she wants to form a band and call it Miss Big, after one of her favourite groups, Mr Big.

Check out this video below of Li-Sa-X and her younger brother, who also plays the guitar, playing a song called Crush by US progressive band Polyphia. The children's mother is also seen in the video playing the piano.

Yoyo and her guitars

Liu Pinxi is another child prodigy who is an expert at playing the electric guitar. Pinxi was born in Hubei, China, and likes to be called Yoyo. She started learning how to play classical guitar when she was only six years old and then gradually moved on to the electric guitar.

In December, Yoyo will celebrate her 11th birthday.

In an interview with Guitar Player magazine, Yoyo shares that when she was younger, she became fascinated by the "more technical guitar players" and decided to learn their techniques.

Some of Yoyo's videos on YouTube have become very popular and as a result of this, a handful of musicians and music companies in China have invited the young talent to perform at festivals and exhibitions around the country.

Yoyo tells Guitar Player that she only practices an hour a day, after all her school work is done. "I spend 20 minutes practicing my technique. Then I take 20 minutes to review what I’ve learned in the past. After that, it’s 20 minutes of studying new tunes or new licks," she was quoted as saying.

Apart from her lessons with a tutor and her father, Liu Wei, Yoyo also learns by watching YouTube tutorials. Some of these players include Petrucci, Paul Gilbert and Brazillian guitarist Ozielzinho, whom she once met at an event.
