Paediatric Department head of Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s Paediatric Institute, Datuk Dr Hussain Imam Muhammad Ismail, notes that the scientific community has been trying to develop a vaccine for dengue – a mosquito-borne infectious disease currently endemic in over 100 countries and a leading cause of child hospitalisation and death in Asia and Latin America – since the 1990s.
