An educational programme to inculcate responsible road safety habits.

PETRONAS StreetSmart – Lessons for Life, an interactive travelling exhibition that promotes the importance of road safety, is now back in Kuala Lumpur.

During the exhibition, operated by Petrosains Sdn Bhd, a “Working Visit” session was held recently, which was attended by Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Dr Tam Weng Wah.

PETRONAS StreetSmart is a CSR programme by PETRONAS to promote road safety awareness and inculcate responsible road safety habits among Malaysians. It features interactive programmes and activities that provide information on road safety.

This exhibition is also part of the PETRONAS Road Safety Movement (PRSM).

According to PETRONAS strategic communications division senior general manager Norliza Kamaruddin, “PETRONAS is fully conscious of its corporate responsibility to educate and promote best practices among its stakeholders.

“With road safety being a major concern in Malaysia, the PRSM was mooted. We are consolidating all road safety related efforts across the group under this initiative to create awareness on the importance of safety on the road.

“With a tagline Safety Gets You There, the PRSM will focus on key road safety issues plaguing Malaysian road users, starting with promoting the usage of road safety devices with the activation of on-ground activities among staff of PETRONAS.

“The PETRONAS StreetSmart exhibition is another important component under the PRSM which contributes in terms of educating the public on road safety.”

Petrosains chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim added, “PETRONAS StreetSmart is not just a typical exhibition about road safety – it explains the science concepts behind road safety so that visitors become aware and understand the reality of the safety implications when on the road.

“It showcases simulated road systems and traffic situations, set up to give visitors the chance to experience and identify problems and dangers associated with road usage.

“It is indeed unique and one-of-a-kind in Malaysia with take-away educational value and inculcation of responsible road habits provided by both the infrastructure of the exhibition and the activities or programs run by the facilitators.”

The exhibition, which started on Nov 16, 2001, is held in almost every state in Malaysia and has reached over 1.4 million Malaysians.

It was designed and built to world-class standards and consists of new interactive exhibits and hands-on programs that convey the science and technology behind road safety in an educational and engaging way.

The exhibition incorporates leading-edge research in road safety with input from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Road Safety Department (JKJR).

Besides the exhibition, PETRONAS StreetSmart facilitators also visit surrounding schools and communities, even in remote locations, to run workshops and activities.

The exhibition, located at the Petrosains Discovery Centre, Suria KLCC, is open to public from 9am – 6pm until May 31. Entrance is free. For more information, visit or call 03-23318181.
