KUALA LUMPUR: Astro launched their next generation TV guide, a multi-lingual user interface that is the first of its kind in Malaysia, on Wednesday.
The new TV Guide will be available to all Astro B.yond customers in phases nationwide from Feb 24 onwards.
Among the new features of the new Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) are a more user-friendly interface that is available in four different languages - English, Bahasa Malaysia, Tamil and Chinese, a Video on Demand (VOD) catalogue that makes it easier for users to browse the content, an improved recording experience, and an enhanced and more capable search engine for easy navigation.
According to Astro chief commercial officer Liew Swee Lin, the new EPG is part of Astro’s commitment to giving their subscribers a better viewing experience. “(The new TV guide provides) a more personalised and improved viewing experience, as well as seamless integration from TV to Astro on The Go customers,” she said during the launch at the Astro headquarters at the Technology Park Malaysia at Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.
Astro chief innovation officer Brian Lenz said that the common complaints about the old interface were the lack of multiple languages and the old VOD interface.
“Many customers had asked whether we could have the guide in their mother tongue,” he said.
“Also, in terms of how you previously navigated the VOD was very separate from the rest of the experience - it could be somewhat difficult to find what you were looking for. That’s because we added video on demand to an UI (User Interface) that wasn’t designed for it.
“Those were the two main things we included for this new TV guide.”
The latest TV guide will be automatically downloaded to all Astro B.yond set top boxes in phases. Astro B.yond customers are advised to leave their systems on standby mode to receive the software update.
