KUALA LUMPUR: The release of a solo album by this year's brightest star Asmawi Ani, or Mawi, has got a six-figure fan base excited and hungry to own yet another piece of the Akademi Fantasia 3 winner.
Despite a minor media stir arising from the singer's recent overnight stay at the house of his fiancée Nordiana Mohd Naib, the release of Yang Tercinta is set to break another record for the 24-year-old pop phenomenon.
Pre-orders for the album has already been increased from 50,000 units on Friday to 60,000, prompting speculation that he will score another mammoth hit on the heels of his AF3 compilation album, billed The Best of Mawi, which sold more than 170,000 units in three months.

Only two other male artistes had done better. Awie's Tragedi Oktober sold 220,000 units, and M Nasir's Canggung Mendonan, 185, 000.
The record high for local album sales was nasyid group Raihan's debut Puji-Pujian in 1996, which sold in excess of 600,000 copies.
Rock diva Ella, had also reportedly sold more than 300,000 copies each of her 1992 albums 30110 and Ella USA (1994).
Speaking at his album launch at the Putra World Trade Centre here, Mawi said he felt overwhelmed that his labour of music was now bearing fruit.
Nasir, who penned Mawi's winning AF3 song Aduhai Saliha has given his touch to Perempuan in the new eight-track album.
Among the other musical sifus who have given a hand are Fauzi Mazuki (Kian), Ajai (Kurnia Tuhan) and Yasin (Cinta Hakiki).
They were all there yesterday, along with a 400-strong audience who paid RM50 to RM300 each, or RM3,000 to RM5,000 for a “charity table” to be at the event and the launching of Fabricganza Islamic Fashion Wear 2005 clothing line by D'Reka Batik Sdn Bhd.
